These courses have been designed for primary teachers in the Republic of Ireland who would like to upskill in advance of the addition of MFL to the Primary Language Curriculum in 2025. They are particularly suitable for non-specialist language teachers.
An EPV Approved course is a course which has been approved by the Department of Education in the Republic of Ireland. This course last 20 hours (10 hours online and 10 hours offline work).
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate which will enable them to apply to their Principal for 3 EPV ( Extra Personal Vacation) days. NB. These are awarded at the discretion of the Principal.
Further to some queries of this nature, Crafty Little Linguists have sought clarification on this question from the Department of Education. This is their response:
"In order to avail of EPV days, a full year contract must have been worked the previous school year and the participant must be registered with the Teaching Council.
EPV days are NOT available to teachers in their first year of teaching, or to a teacher working as substitution cover or in part-time or short-term temporary contracts."
